WORD WORK: Our class will review all the spelling patterns that we have learned this year.


NWEA: Second graders will begin taking the reading NWEA assessment on Tuesday. Please help your children perform at their best by getting enough rest, eating a healthy breakfast / snack, and encouraging students to take their time to show what they know.  


The math NWEA will begin the week of May 11th.


Sack Lunch Orders: Thank you for turning in your child’s sack lunch order. This allows our kitchen staff time to order the necessary items for the school sack lunches. If you were unable to send in your slip last week, please send the form back to school as soon as possible.


MAY 21st  from 11:10 -12:30   Walking Trip to Kiwanis Park 

Our second graders will go on our annual trip down to Kiwanis Park for fun, food, and games. Please dress appropriately for the weather, wear walking shoes, and sunscreen. Students will need a sack lunch. PARENTS AND YOUNGER SIBLINGS ARE WELCOME.


SJ FIELD TRIP: FRIDAY MAY 22nd  9:00 – 12:30 PM: Lincoln’s second grade classes will be visiting the Silver Beach Carousel, touring historical sites on the bluff, and watching the Memorial Day Parade.  The trip will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the carousel and conclude after the parade at approximately 12:30 p.m.  

Students will eat sack lunches from home or school depending upon what you requested at school when we return to school.  


**PARENTS ARE WELCOME to attend our field trip.  We ask no siblings to attend the carousel and bluff walk.  This is a special time for our second grade students to learn about our community.  Parents may meet us with siblings at the parade site.  We usually find seating in front of the War Memorials on the bluff side of the street.

The plan for our trip is as follows:

8:45  Bus leaves Lincoln School 

  • Our 2 classes will ride on one bus. 

  • 9:00  Arrive at the carousel for the presentation and rides

  • Student rides will be funded by our district.  Parents will need to pay if they want to accompany their children on the carousel.  One class will ride the carousel first while the other class enjoys a presentation about Silver Beach Amusement Park.  Then groups will switch.

10:00 - 11:45   Bluff Walk

  • Students will present information about statues, monuments, and other historical marks on the bluff. All field trip participants need to be respectful, responsible, and safe since we will be sharing the sidewalks with community members and other school groups.

11:45  Get seated for the parade-find a spot across the street from the Boulevard Hotel

12:00  Memorial Day Parade

  • Students will sit on the curb, enjoy a snack and water while watching the small parade.

12:30  Return to school

  • Students will walk to meet the bus on State St. after the parade and eat lunch when we return to school.

  Weekly Update Week of May 18, 2026   1 5/18   We have gym.  1 5/19   We have STEM     5/20   We have a late start. We have library centers. Please make sure you returned all books.   5/21   We have Step Up, art, and our trip to Kiwanis.   5/22   We have our trip downtown. WORD WORK: This week our class will continue to learn about adding suffix endings -er and -est to words as in the words big, bigger, biggest.  Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns.  NWEA: Second graders have worked hard completing their NWEA assessments this past week. Any student who was unable to finish the reading or math tests will complete their tests on Monday, May 18th and/or Tuesday, May 19th. Results will be sent home in your child’s report card. Please return books 9/25 We have art. 9/26 We have music and Football Readers Word Work : This week our second graders will be learning words that are -vce syllables. This rule includes words like made, globe, quite, escape, and suppose. We will be sending home a list of -vce words on Monday for students to practice reading throughout the week. Spelling is not expected but can be practiced if time allows. A poem will be sent home on Thursday for your child to read with you as part of their nightly reading.  Laps for Lincoln:  Our Laps for Lincoln fundraiser is off to a great start.  We had an exciting assembly on Friday and packets came home in each student's folder along with a letter detailing the information.
