Word Work: Our class will continue to learn to read and write words that have common sounds with different spelling patterns including the /air/ sound spelled ere, ear, air, and are. Such as there, wear,  flair, and carefully.


March Is Reading Month: Reading Month continues this week with the winners from last week! Students are welcome to keep reading / listening to these books at home if technology is available. The count down to naming the most popular book in March is on! 


Library Books:  Please help your child remember to return or renew his/her library books every Wednesday.


Michigan Weather:  You have to love it! It is that crazy time of year again when one day it seems like spring is here and then the next day you are looking for the winter coat you put in storage.  Please dress your child in layers if possible when those spring-like temperatures are expected.  The Y5-2nd expectation is that children wear coats to 50 degrees and long sleeves to 60.

  Weekly Update September 22, 2025 9/22 We have gym. 9/23 We have STEM      9/24 We have a late start.    We have library. Please return books 9/25 We have art. 9/26 We have music and Football Readers Word Work : This week our second graders will be learning words that are -vce syllables. This rule includes words like made, globe, quite, escape, and suppose. We will be sending home a list of -vce words on Monday for students to practice reading throughout the week. Spelling is not expected but can be practiced if time allows. A poem will be sent home on Thursday for your child to read with you as part of their nightly reading.  Laps for Lincoln:  Our Laps for Lincoln fundraiser is off to a great start.  We had an exciting assembly on Friday and packets came home in each student's folder along with a letter detailing the information. Weekly Update September 15, 2025 915 We have gym.  9/16 We have STEM.     All School Picture 9/17 We have a late start. School will start at 9:25 a.m.      We have library. Bring books back please.  It is Constitution Day 9/18 We have art. 9/19 We have music and the football readers will visit WORD WORK: This week our second graders will be learning words that are open syllables.  This includes words like; be, by, me, and cry. Students will bring home a poem on Thursday nights which use our syllable pattern words and other high-frequency words being practiced in our whole group learning time. Please have your child read the poem to you or share the poem with your child and discuss the words and meaning as part of  your nightly reading.  WELCOME MISS MAEVE: We will have a highschool cadet in our classroom this year on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoon.
