WORD WORK:Our class will be learning to read and write words with common affixes such as en-,

em-, ex-, and new words with the schwa sound, /ə/, spelled with a. 

The following words are examples: enable, embrace, expression, around, amaze,

comma, and panda.


DRESS UP DAYS: Our school has dress up days this week.  Please note the 2nd grade is going to switch two of the days because of our field trip to Sarett.

SARETT FIELD TRIP: Our second graders will be traveling to Sarett Nature Center on March 5th in the

morning from 9:30-11:00. We will be learning about maple sugaring and need to

for the weather since we will spend most of the time hiking outside.  Parents are welcome to join us at Sarett but there is an admission fee of $3 for nonmembers

according to their website. Please email me if you are planning to attend.


MARCH IS READING MONTH: Reading Month is here! Students have been

introduced to our bracket of books for this month as fiction goes up against nonfiction

with some very fun titles.  During the last week of March, students will have a chance

to vote for their favorites to see who the winner will be.  This is a great opportunity for

reading.

  Weekly Update September 22, 2025 9/22 We have gym. 9/23 We have STEM      9/24 We have a late start.    We have library. Please return books 9/25 We have art. 9/26 We have music and Football Readers Word Work : This week our second graders will be learning words that are -vce syllables. This rule includes words like made, globe, quite, escape, and suppose. We will be sending home a list of -vce words on Monday for students to practice reading throughout the week. Spelling is not expected but can be practiced if time allows. A poem will be sent home on Thursday for your child to read with you as part of their nightly reading.  Laps for Lincoln:  Our Laps for Lincoln fundraiser is off to a great start.  We had an exciting assembly on Friday and packets came home in each student's folder along with a letter detailing the information. Weekly Update September 15, 2025 915 We have gym.  9/16 We have STEM.     All School Picture 9/17 We have a late start. School will start at 9:25 a.m.      We have library. Bring books back please.  It is Constitution Day 9/18 We have art. 9/19 We have music and the football readers will visit WORD WORK: This week our second graders will be learning words that are open syllables.  This includes words like; be, by, me, and cry. Students will bring home a poem on Thursday nights which use our syllable pattern words and other high-frequency words being practiced in our whole group learning time.
