Weekly Update

Week of January 26, 2026

WORD WORK: Our class will be learning about the -ch, -tch, and -ture syllable pattern this week. You will notice this is the same as last week.  Due to our many days off last week, we will learn this pattern this week instead.  Our syllable pattern makes the sound as luggage, ridge, and mixture.

FEBRUARY CONFERENCES: Conference time is here again. Conferences will be primarily done on an "as needed basis" for students needing additional academic, social, or emotional support. I am happy to meet with any parent who would like to have a conference. These conferences, like the fall, will be student involved. Conference letters will be coming home Monday, January 26th. It would be greatly appreciated if forms are returned by Wednesday, January 28th.

ICE SKATING: Our Lincoln School Skating day will be Tuesday, Feb. 3.  We will leave the school at 1:25, skate from 1:40-2:20 and return to school at 2:45.  If you are available to help fit skates and would like to join the fun, please make sure your volunteer paperwork is completed in the office.  Thank you

MUSIC PERFORMANCE:   Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, February 18th.  This is the day our 2nd graders will perform their show HATS.  The performance will take place at the St. Joseph High School at 6:30 p.m.  Here is a link to the website with more information.

DINOSAUR MUSEUM & SBC FIELD TRIP: Our field trip to the Indiana Dinosaur Museum and South Bend Chocolate Company will be on February 5th. We will leave by bus at 9:15 and return by 2:45.  Our time at both locations will be from 10-2. Parents may meet us at the museum at 10. There is a $15 admission fee for adults. Reminder: If you plan to join us, please let me know by the new extended deadline of Tuesday. While the original cutoff was January 16th, I am moving the date to provide better opportunity for others to join while also allowing me sufficient time to ensure everyone has completed and submitted the required volunteer paperwork. Thank you to those who have already reached out!

VALENTINE’S DAY PARTY:  It is really hard to believe that our last classroom party is just around the corner.  Our Valentine’s Day party will be held on Friday, February 13th, from 9:15 - 10:15.  I will be sending an email to those parents who signed up to help at Back to School Night.  If you missed the sign up and would like to help or attend the party, please contact me by email as soon as possible. If you want to access the class list for Valentines, you can find it here or on the blog. Please remember you must fill out the volunteer forms before helping at our parties. 

SCIENCE & CULTURE NIGHT:  On Thursday, we will be holding our 4th annual Science & Culture Night. This evening of choice for our students as they select their sessions to attend to explore various science concepts through hands-on experiences. Between sessions, various cultural tables will be set up for students to visit and learn about. Students may attend all three sessions or come for just part of the evening. No choices need to be made ahead of time, just show up and select the room you want to visit! At the end of the evening, our robotics team will provide a demonstration to show off their robot. Join us if you are able! It's definitely worth it!
