Weekly Update

Word Work: Our class will learn about the -dge and -ge word patterns this week as in ridge, village, budge, and package. Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns.
Math Fact Mastery: In 2nd grade we divide out our math facts into chunks that follow the order of addition facts to 10, subtraction facts to 10, addition facts 10-20, and subtraction facts 10-20. At this time of year, your child should be at or above working on fluently adding facts 10-20. Students have been practicing the facts in class individually and through games. If he/she is not at this point, please make sure to practice facts nightly.
Nightly Reading: Students' nightly reading routine should be spent reading at least 20 minutes. Ideally, it would be beneficial for students to read to an adult for half of the time. Students may read on RAZ, EPIC, and BookFlix as an alternative for reading books and magazines each night. Thank you for your support.
NWEA: Our window for taking the reading and math NWEA is from January 7th - January 23rd. Students cannot prepare for this test ahead of time. Please continue to have your child get plenty of rest each night and eat a healthy breakfast each day.
Dinosaur Museum & SBC Field Trip: Our classes will be taking a field trip to the Dinosaur Museum and South Bend Chocolate Company on February 5th. We will leave by bus at 9:15 and return by 2:45. Our time at both locations will be from 10-2. Students will need to bring a sack lunch or order a school sack lunch ahead of time. Parents who would like to join us will be in charge of their own transportation and the entrance fee will be $15 per adult. Students' entrance fee will be covered by a St. Joseph Foundation grant. Let us know by January 16th if you would like to join us. Please have volunteer paperwork filed in the office before February 5th.
