Weekly Update

Welcome to Second Grade!
WELCOME: I am looking forward to our first week in second grade and all the great learning we have ahead of us. Thank you for sharing your child and being a part of our Lincoln School Family.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL: Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the ice-cream social. It is such a fun night to meet everyone. I am excited about the year ahead.
BACK TO SCHOOL TONIGHT: I look forward to seeing everyone this Wednesday. We will meet from 5:45-6:30 p.m. Please remember this night is for adults only. Let me know if you have any questions.
MORNING CAR RIDER DROP-OFF/PICK-UP It is very important that these expectations are followed closely. Please watch this video provided by Mrs. Knuth, as it highlights the drop-off and pick-up procedures that must be followed. If you need more time with your student or arrive early, please do not take up staff parking. Instead, please, move to one of the other suggested areas. Finally, if your child is having breakfast, they will go straight to the lunch room between 8:10-8:30 to eat. Pick-up is similar. Thank you for being helpful with this.
ADDITIONAL ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL INFO: This week, teachers will be on the playground blacktop waiting to greet students and escort them into the building. At the end of the day, Mrs. Laukus or myself will take walkers and car riders out the west door (playground door) to the pick up area or to the sidewalk outside the fence to meet their grown ups. Bus riders will be escorted by the other teacher to the buses at the front of the building.
END OF DAY PLAN: Please make sure your child knows your family's after-school plan.
If a bus rider, which bus does your child ride?
If a walker, is someone meeting him or her at a designated spot?
Car riders will follow the protocol shared by Mrs. Knuth.

SNACK TIME: During the ice cream social it was brought to my attention that I said 2 snacks in my back to school letter. Officially we will have one snack every morning before recess. This will be a working snack so please send healthy, easy to eat food. If it requires a spoon, please include that. I will have pretzels available if your child does not have anything to eat. Finally due to our carpet, only water will be permitted in water bottles. Now for the 2nd snack part. Our lunch ends at 12:20. For some with long bus rides or car rides after school, this can be a lot of time without food. Therefore, we will have an optional 2nd snack time during our closing meeting at the very end of the day. It will be short so snacks like pretzels, goldfish, or other small quick food should only be sent.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES: You are welcome to send in school supplies throughout the week.

NIGHTLY READING: Students are expected to read every night. Students are expected to read for 10 minutes each night this week. If you have been reading throughout the summer and your child's reading stamina is greater than 10 minutes, please continue your routine. The goal for second grade is for all children to read independently for a minimum of 20 minutes. They should be able to read fluently, retell the information, and answer a variety of questions accurately at their reading level.
