Word Work: Our class will be reviewing all the words that they have learned this year. This includes the following..... 

  • -vce words like pine

  • r-controlled words like star, flower, bird, corn, and burn, 

  • the /oo/ syllable pattern as in blue, moon, youth

  • the /ou/ syllable pattern as in count and  town

  • adding -ed and -ing endings to words

  • the three sounds that -ed makes in words: /t/, /ed or id/, /d/ such as finished, acted, and yelled

  • suffixes tion and sion as in the words celebration, information, passion, and vision 


Report Cards: Reports cards will be coming home this week.  Please note that grades are based on your child’s ability to consistently demonstrate the end of 2nd grade standard.  Due to this, you may see a report card of ones and twos but very few threes.  Please remember that a two means approaching the standard and is not a concern unless I reach out to you or document it in the comment area.


Stuff A Truck: Thank you for your donations to Stuff A Truck this year.  Many people in our community will benefit from your generosity.


2nd Grade Math Night!  Our math fact night was enjoyed by many of our second grade students and families. We look forward to sharing the activities with those that were unable to attend this special night during our math time. Thank you to Gina Kling from Hope College and her students for bringing this special night to SJPS. 


Thanksgiving Luncheon:  Our Lincoln School Thanksgiving Luncheon will be Thursday, November. 21st. Due to space, only volunteer servers are able to join us. Thank you for your understanding.

  Weekly Update September 22, 2025 9/22 We have gym. 9/23 We have STEM      9/24 We have a late start.    We have library. Please return books 9/25 We have art. 9/26 We have music and Football Readers Word Work : This week our second graders will be learning words that are -vce syllables. This rule includes words like made, globe, quite, escape, and suppose. We will be sending home a list of -vce words on Monday for students to practice reading throughout the week. Spelling is not expected but can be practiced if time allows. A poem will be sent home on Thursday for your child to read with you as part of their nightly reading.  Laps for Lincoln:  Our Laps for Lincoln fundraiser is off to a great start.  We had an exciting assembly on Friday and packets came home in each student's folder along with a letter detailing the information. Weekly Update September 15, 2025 915 We have gym.  9/16 We have STEM.     All School Picture 9/17 We have a late start. School will start at 9:25 a.m.      We have library. Bring books back please.  It is Constitution Day 9/18 We have art. 9/19 We have music and the football readers will visit WORD WORK: This week our second graders will be learning words that are open syllables.  This includes words like; be, by, me, and cry. Students will bring home a poem on Thursday nights which use our syllable pattern words and other high-frequency words being practiced in our whole group learning time. Please have your child read the poem to you or share the poem with your child and discuss the words and meaning as part of  your nightly reading.  WELCOME MISS MAEVE: We will have a highschool cadet in our classroom this year on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoon.
