Word Work: This week our class will be learning about the sounds that -ed says at the end of the words (-ed/-id, d, and t).   I like to refer to it as the languages that -ed speaks. Students will bring home word lists on Monday to read, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns.  


Sub on Monday: The students are aware I will be out on Monday. Mrs. Davis will be their sub. She is a good friend of mine and has been one of my preferred subs for almost 20 years. I have great confidence that learning and classroom management will continue just as I like it to be. I will be keeping an eye on my messages, but if you have any transportation changes please contact the office. Let me know if you have any questions.


Math: We are beginning our work in Unit 2 of Illustrative Mathematics.  The family resource links will help you understand what your child is learning during this unit.

Halloween Party: Thank you to all who have volunteered to help and/or send in supplies for our party this Friday. Our second grade party will be from 2:15 - 3:15 p.m. The students are looking forward to this celebration. Students may wear their costumes all day, and we will have an all school costume parade outside on the blacktop at 3:15. If it is raining, the outside parade will be canceled.

  Weekly Update September 22, 2025 9/22 We have gym. 9/23 We have STEM      9/24 We have a late start.    We have library. Please return books 9/25 We have art. 9/26 We have music and Football Readers Word Work : This week our second graders will be learning words that are -vce syllables. This rule includes words like made, globe, quite, escape, and suppose. We will be sending home a list of -vce words on Monday for students to practice reading throughout the week. Spelling is not expected but can be practiced if time allows. A poem will be sent home on Thursday for your child to read with you as part of their nightly reading.  Laps for Lincoln:  Our Laps for Lincoln fundraiser is off to a great start.  We had an exciting assembly on Friday and packets came home in each student's folder along with a letter detailing the information. Weekly Update September 15, 2025 915 We have gym.  9/16 We have STEM.     All School Picture 9/17 We have a late start. School will start at 9:25 a.m.      We have library. Bring books back please.  It is Constitution Day 9/18 We have art. 9/19 We have music and the football readers will visit WORD WORK: This week our second graders will be learning words that are open syllables.  This includes words like; be, by, me, and cry. Students will bring home a poem on Thursday nights which use our syllable pattern words and other high-frequency words being practiced in our whole group learning time.
