Weekly Update

September 29, 2025

9/29	We have gym.

10/1	We have a late start.   We have library. Please return all books.

10/3	We have music.

Word Work: Our class will be learning about the r-controlled syllable pattern this week. Words that follow this pattern include artist, teacher, direct, actor, and curly. A poem will be sent home on Thursday for your child to read with you as part of their nightly reading. 

Laps for Lincoln:  Our Laps for Lincoln fundraiser is off to a great start.  We had a wonderful week of fundraising and great bear behaviors.  I am excited to see everyone on Friday for the walk at Lincoln School from 5-7. Thank you for your support. 

Math:  Our second graders are nearing the end of unit 1 in math.  From some of the papers coming home, you can see we have focused on proving how to solve addition and subtraction problems within 50.   In addition, students have begun learning about organizing and sharing data with others.  In our next unit we will incorporate graphs, diagrams, base 10 blocks and other strategies to demonstrate why an addition or subtraction problem is true.

Homework: Your child’s reading logs and math activity sheet will be collected on Wednesday, October 1st. Please help your child record any work done at home as it is completed. We are excited to see what great books are being read at home and how students feel they are doing when sharing math activities with you.
